AMA Comment Code 30140, Submucous resection turbinate, partial or complete, any method, is intended to identify a unilateral procedure, as the language in the descriptor identifies a single turbinate. If the procedure is performed bilaterally, then modifier -50 should be appended to identify the specific effort involved in performing the services rendered for the turbinates on both sides.
