Answer: According to the American College of Radiology (ACR) Practice Parameter for the Performance of Screening and Diagnostic Mammography, a screening mammogram should be performed on asymptomatic women with breast implants. In addition, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' (CMS') payment policy for a diagnostic mammogram does not recognize mammograms performed on asymptomatic patients with augmented breasts as diagnostic.
