September 2006 pages 1-4 Renal Pelvis Catheter Procedures For CPT 2006, four new codes (50382-50389) have been established to report removal of ureteral stents. Prior to the addition of these codes, reporting ureteral stent exchange was possible only with the existing endoscopic approach codes. These procedures are performed most often for the treatment of ureteral strictures and obstructions and are differentiated by approach (percutaneous and transurethral) and type (internally dwelling and externally dwelling). The code families are differentiated further by reporting removal or removal-replacement.
