November 2009 page 9 Coding Brief:Ophthalmic Ultrasound (codes 76513 and 0187T) For these studies, the CPT code set distinguishes between these two technologies. If ultrasound is used, then code 76513, Ophthalmic ultrasound, diagnostic; anterior segment ultrasound, immersion (water bath) B-scan or high resolution biomicroscopy, is reported. If optical coherence tomography (OCT) is used, then code 0187T, Scanning computerized ophthalmic diagnostic imaging, anterior segment, with interpretation and report, unilateral, is reported.
