March 2010 pages 6-8 Reporting Psychiatry Services Psychiatry is a specialized field for the diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders and/or diseases. There are two distinct forms of services for psychiatric procedures: diagnostic and therapeutic. Psychiatric diagnostic services include an interview examination, (codes 90801-90802) which involves obtaining a history, mental status, diagnosis and disposition of an individual as a foundation for potential therapeutic services. Therapeutic services (codes 90804-90857) are psychotherapy treatments for mental illness and behavioral disturbances.
