Are these codes unilateral or bilateral? These procedures are often done unilaterally, but they may be performed bilaterally. AMA Comment The renal bypass codes (35536, 35560) are unilateral codes. For example, if a bilateral splenorenal bypass is performed using vein graft, then you would report CPT code 35536, Bypass graft, with vein; splenorenal, with the modifier -50 appended to indicate that the procedure was performed bilaterally.
