Or, is code 58661 inherently bilateral? AMA Comment From a coding perspective, code 58661 describes a unilateral procedure. Therefore, if a laparoscopy is performed and bilateral removal of ovaries and/or fallopian tubes is performed, modifier -50 should be appended to indicate the procedure was performed bilaterally.
